House Music and other Happenings
Last night was the annual St. Leonard's College House Music Competition at Hamer Hall. Of course, I went to show my support for friends and family members who are still at school and, naturally, I may have shown a little more support for the above mentioned friends and family members who happen to be in Forster House. After out narrow loss to Cornish last year, I had to make sure we stepped up this year and took home the gold. Which we did. Our mass pieces were pretty good, but our small instrumental and vocal groups were what won it for us - they were incredible! It reminded me of how I used to feel about school, back in the good old days when it felt like a community. House Music is the epitome of that, and I miss being involved in it. Which took away a little from the excitement last night about our victory, but it was enjoyable nevertheless.
It was kind of bizarre going back and seeing everybody - nothing has changed. It seems like just yesterday that it was me up there on that stage, but at the same time it's like it was a different life. I can still remember what it was like; every single moment of it. Looking at Alicia was like looking in a mirror that shows you your past self - she looked nervous as all hell. I remember last year the other, older Alicia came up to me afterwards and congratulated me. I wanted to do the same this year, but didn't get a chance. Paije and Alicia both won conducting awards, so I cheered extra loud for them. I didn't get to catch up with everyone I wanted to - mainly people from the strings community. But I did get to catch up with Matt, which is always worth getting out of bed for.
Today brought equally exciting news - we finally settled on the dog we want! It came down to a decision between an adorable Schnoodle and an equally adorable Labradoodle. I really liked the Schnoodle, but Kieran and Mum wanted the Lab, so I'm happy with that choice too. I just can't wait to get it! We haven't heard back from the people yet, but if at all possible, I would love to collect it on Sunday. She's a little golden coloured one with a chocolate nose, and beautiful blue eyes! I look forward to introducing her to Sunne.
Tomorrow is Mum's 50th birthday party, which means that I will spend a couple of hours in the corner trying to look very busy. Not that I'm avoiding anyone or anything... It should be fun. Mum sent out an email ordering us all to cancel any plans we may have had that involved surprise speeches and the like. Drat. And I was so looking forward to the strippers.
Also, Dad and I saw What Happens in Vegas today. It was as expected. However, just having viewed Back to the Future for the first time, I'm wondering exactly where all the really great movies are these days. Waiting to be written by movie-obsessed bloggers, maybe? I guess only time will tell. Catch you later, internet.
